Now as some of you may know, using unbreaking books is very glitchy at the moment, often not working even though you have the "required xp". through research, i found this is a problem with vanilla minecraft, and there is a fix for this. The bug is that, the client is telling you that you need less levels than the server thinks you need. simply gaining a little more levels should fix this. as long as you hear the "ting ting ting" sound, the enchanting will be successful. if you do not hear the sound when you take the item out of the anvil, it has not succeeded, and will spit the original item back out at you. (not that you will appear to lose xp, this can be fixed by picking up a single xp orb) So far, i have only experienced this bug with unbreaking books, but it may also do this with other books. (i believe thorns books are also buggy). Hopefully this will help you when you want to put your unbreaking books on swords, armor, or bows.
