multiply the first number by two and subtract one to get the last number or 3.
2*2-1=3
multiply second number by two and subtract one to get the third number or 7
4*2-1=7
So we multiply the first pair by 2 and subtracted one because they are one number each and got the second pair of numbers. Unfortunately this doesn't work if we multiply 24 by 2 and subtract 1.
but how about if we do this...
Multiply the first half by 2 and subtract 2 because we're using a double digit number.
24*2-2=46
We get 46... The initial number 2473 is a four digit number so lets subtract another 4.
46-4= 42
Now we get 42..
