Bans in general

Bans in general

by zerg960 » Mon Oct 31, 2011 8:31 pm

I'm proposing to fundamentally change how we do bans..

Bans as a whole will be between 20 minutes to 36 hours maximum, with the preferred ban length being 6 hours (even for TNT grief. the kind Eve rolls back on her own).

Members of the community (people who've made several friends on Kreatious) should never have to be concerned or feel that they are walking on egg shells whenever they come online. To that end, offenses that'd normally be a permanent ban (x-ray hacking twice in a month or more..), would be a 1-week ban.

Non-members of the community (people who *just* join, and their sole accomplishment is being a disruptive contributor - grieving everything, spamming chat, disrupting the balance of life that Eywa provides.. etc.) would be banned for 6 hours, then 12.. then 24.. then a week ban. (hacking (fly/speed) would follow the same pattern; after 1 or 2 warnings... we hit em with a 6-24 hour ban :>)

The goal is to keep the community together, happy, growing, and worry-free. I don't want any more drama because ____ got banned.

Thoughts?

I agree with most parts of that...

HOWEVER <---- (look! I can do underline!)

Very serious greifing continuously should be perm-banned. With most this system, its very much a temporarily banning.

However, fully restricting someones access from the server can be harsh in some cases.

I agree, very serious consistent griefing should warrant a lengthy ban.

But, permanently restricting access to awesomeness, could be harsh. So, if we do a 7-day ban, it's long enough that the server would have time to fix itself (i.e. i change the code so you can't do that again!), and a person is given some time to go grief some other people and get the grief out of their system. Very few people, in my opinion, would grief every day for such a protracted period of time.

Well, the way i see it, at least with the way grief alert works currently, 98% of bans are from autokicker, and eve handles almost all grief (when the plugins are working, when they're not, there's no logs to use to figure out who dunit!), So I honestly don't expect to see anyone do multiple massive griefs and evade auto-kicker in the process.

Regardless, 7-day ban is a long time, and if you're enjoying yourself with massive griefs for 1 minute to 2 hours (max. time before i notice grief alert's brooke), then you get banned for a week, come back, greif, come back a week later.. you'll get tired of it eventually, right?

That could work well I don't think someone will be stupid enough to come back every week just to grief something that will be fix fast

If we don't have perma-bans, do we even need a ban appeals section?

I say there should be perma only when it comes to the point where the person in question just won't learn.
