Now, when you say, "You will not be able to interact with the settlers," does this mean you will not be able to communicate (as in chat) between the continents during this 3 week period? Or does it simply mean that you won't be able to see them person-to-person, because you're in separate maps?

If it's the first one, I would strongly urge you to change this. For those of us who generally only come online to go on chat and talk to friends, this is going to be a pretty big inconvenience. Part of the community is going to migrate, while the others choose to stay on the old world; this would create a difficult situation, in which you would have to choose which group of friends you basically want to ignore for the next 3 weeks.

As an extension to Irish's point, it would also be impossible to moderate chat. But yeah, I like the other ideas
