I banned zombies. They won't spawn anymore.
Did something with the mob splashing in water code.
Mobs won't go through portals anymore.

If anyone is wondering why zombies are now gone, it's because of a vanilla bug with zombie's pathfinding that causes severe lag. more info here: https://mojang.atlassian.net/browse/MC-17630
