Methods of converting regular players to voters?

Methods of converting regular players to voters?

by harshlife » Wed May 02, 2012 11:24 pm

So i've noticed that at any one time, its rare to see more than half the online population having voted.
Im wondering if anyone has any ideas on ways to get people to vote?

Voting gets us higher on minestatus, higher on minestatus attracts more people, more people leads to more donations, more donations leads to server upgrades and maintainace. Ergo.. Voting = Good.

Currently we have:
Voter commands
Wall-E Reminders
"Top 10 Voters" Yellow Chat colour
"7 consecutive days" green chat colour - (irriversible)

I've tried (and failed) with the opertunity to win a diamond.
Frankly i thought that would work well, but no such luck.

So.. ideas? How do we get non voters voting?

I thought maybe having voting tied in to a person's ability to become (and perhaps stay?) a resident.

Further thoughts:
Well.
My new, harsher suggestion, is to make the teleports voter based commands.
Have /mine, /go, /home, /wp all as voter only.

An exception could be added for people within their first week of signing up.

People dont have to vote, but they enjoy benafits of hasty transport for voting.

back in my non-troll days I voted every single day, usually 2 minutes of non-voting at max. I got nothing for it

hmm ya but there are some dumb people who dun know how to vote :? . also that would make new players get very frusterated (and make walle work harder).

the second quote in the quote said new players get a week of teleport commands then have to vote, and we tell them how to vote all the time, even posting direct links

As addressed, new players would be given the votes temporarily, possible tied in with the green font duration or perhaps a few days while they familarise themselves and decide wether they wish to be here for longer (on further thought, a week is excessive).

I agree. However, it might encourage people to instead just not vote and mine on the main world.
Removing /home as well would force someone to have a route of return unless they voted. I know personally that when mining I often end up miles from where I started with no real recollection of how I got there... Voting in this case would take less time than walking back... ergo, no excuse not to.

The only victims of such a move, in my eyes, are people who for whatever reason find it difficult to vote.
Fixes for this would need to be considered, though they could certainly have a friend vote for them by proxy.
