Like, it's placed down(the sponge) and after sucking up whatever amount of water, it stops and doesn't care if there is anymore water. Like this, there wouldn't be any constant checking because it does it's job once and then goes to sleep.

(not trying to put any pressure on you, the coder, to make this. Just think it could be a decent compromise.)

That was actually a very good idea :)
Just make the block disappear after the remove water event has taken place. I guess you can't just cancel the place event either, cause' then the sponge event doesnt know when to execute. You'll figure it out if we give it a go

Perhaps, but block placement is already hurting as it is.

From /perf on creative:

Top 10 longest events:
onBlockPlace: Max 77, 69, 66ms; Ran 43617 times.
onBlockBreak: Max 76, 74, 72ms; Ran 29509 times.
onPlayerInteract: Max 35, 7, 3ms; Ran 116107 times.

10:22:47 [INFO] Current 10 slowest events:
10:22:47 [INFO] onBlockPlace: Current: 0.75 +/- 7.88ms Ran 44423 times.
10:22:47 [INFO] onBlockBurn: Current: 0.19 +/- 2.22ms Ran 3065 times.
10:22:47 [INFO] onBlockBreak: Current: 0.36 +/- 0.95ms Ran 29955 times.

Moah block placement lag for a block type that isn't used that often? :o

I think the biggest thing some of us want is some sort of faster way to remove water especially with the changes in 1.0.0 that changed the effects of lava and water touching taking away one of our fastest ways to drain water via the trick you showed us.
