How will the new ender chests be used?

The current snapshot introduces enderchests, you can put stuff in 1 and it will be in all of them, this isent really usefull for general use as your stuff can be stolen by anyone else with an enderchest.. so lets have this topic be about idea's on how to use this new feature to benefit everyone

Perhaps... Some kinda of universal Shops... If they can be designated to individual users, but still be accessible anywhere. Players could update their shops from home, and have a chest in all towns/spawn if they wish to.

Imagine having a enderchest at your /home, and 5 more in other towns. You can restock from /home and still sell or [trade] elsewhere.

Thats my thought, I haven't looked into enderchests so know much.

well if they worked it appears you think they do (maybe zerg can tweak them cause they would be better that way) then you could private a enderchest and it gets attached to your chest network , then 1 guy could be mining and 1 could be building and torches/picks can get sent down while cobble gets sent up, also that shop thing you mentioned

but how they actually work is that the items arent linked to the chest's the chests are a "key" to access the inventory.. and every chest on the server access's the same inventory

no.. if it gets taken out of one it gets taken out of all of them if it gets placed in one it gets placed in all of them... if all the chests are broken nothing comes out, place a new one there still in there

Similar idea to this.
One storage device, with the facility to be opened anywhere.

I imagine it will be very quickly modded to be useable by multiple people on SMP, if not modded already and waiting for the patch to be released.

but if its modded to work with our current lock system and u have 2 chests.. one has only your name and the otherone has yours and zerg's.. how will that function? will there be a whole new inventory for that specific player combination? will they have to be on the same lines of sign to be recognized?

and if they don't get modded how can they be used? a mail system using written books?n or something else

Listen, as far as I no, using the shop idea won't work. Like stated, if something is placed in a chest it goes in all. That means somebody could just steal your stuff.... So either way, unless Zerg codes a plugin for private enderchests, nobody should use them...
