Want to buy an SSD for creative server...

by zerg960 » Sat Nov 12, 2011 6:27 pm

I'll upgrade creative server to have an SSD if we have a 40-50$ surplus of money in donations before December 1st.

Otherwise, there's not much I can do to fix the lag on creative:

In other words: during times of lag, the server is waiting about 1/5th to 1/3rd of a second on average between asking for something from the hard drive, and getting it. Meaning: It waits 2 to 4 ticks loading each chunk from the disk, during that time, no blocks can be placed or destroyed.

Maybe a possible alternative is (maybe) Get rid of survival now and if people are getting bored on creative(after moth/few months), then get a survival again and get rid of creative then. And if people get bored with survival again then(after month/few months), then get a creative server and get rid of survival, and then the story will repeat itsself. Any opinions for good ideas ?

Well... Probably best to just downgrade the survival now since it's barely used. When it get's populated again (MC full release) just upgrade it and downgrade creative. Theres probably never going to be 45 people on survival at the same time...

Heisan's idea is great. Usually there are 5 people on survival, when there are 30 on creative.

I say we downgrade Survival a bit, since MOST people don't play on it as much, but yeah don't get rid of it. D:
Without Survival what would I do with myself!?!? XD

Getting rid of survival would be like getting rid of a part of kreatious history

I like the idea of downgrading survival a bit. It's really at the point where most players either just want to play on creative all-together, or have gathered the majority of what they intend to gather on the Temp map, and are just passing the time on creative until the full release map is implemented.

I don't know if this is possible, but could we just change which server has the priority, based on which is currently being used more? for instance, if there's a point of day when the survival server tends to get equal or higher player counts than creative, we could shift the priority to survival until it settles down again? I have no idea how the system works, or if this is just a completely ridiculous idea, but I figured I'd give it a shot.

If anything, I think downgrading survival a bit seems to be the best option. For one, less players. Also, with infinite blocks, and flying, players are placing blocks very rapidly, and destroying them equally rapidly; whereas in survival, you have finite blocks, leading to a more cautious, thus slower, placement of blocks, as to not waste resources. Not to mention the myriad of other variables one has to account for, such as hunger, gravity, air (for underwater building), or avoiding waves of monsters and lava springs. <.<
