Java update? (Sorry if this doesn't go here, been inactive)

First off let me just say I'm not really sure where to post this, I've been inactive as you all have seen. So if this doesn't belong here just notify me and move it to the correct forum. Thank you, and my apologies! <3

Ok, so my Minecraft won't open because every time I click it, it says

I've redownloaded the newest Java update 3 times (which is Java 8) but I've never gotten an option for an update for Java SE 6 Runtime...

I then thought it was maybe my Minecraft account, so i deleted and redownloaded Minecraft and that didn't solve it, unfortunately.

Any suggestions? Although I'm on a Mac I can work my way around this if you give me instructions to fix it on a PC.

but really, idk how to fix for a mac, never had this problem (using windows 7/8). Its asking you for a older java version and idk why. Java 6 hasn't been used for a long time. launcher uses 7 or 8.

Ok well sorry for double posting, but can a mod archive this? I ended up restoring my computer to fix it so it's all good now. Thank you
