Retired rank would be pointless

Yes, same with Moderators. If they're not active, we get people to take their place who are active.

I recently logged in only to be forcefully asked, by someone I don't speak to, to vote for someone I don't really like. All of a sudden some people are "nice and "helpful". What a drama filled mind bend. If this is a popularity contest, then treat it as such. Vtn should go to someone who has many "friends", can talk the talk and play the political game.

Otherwise, the vote should be treated as an honorary and recognition thing for active players, and the decision should be left to the trusted staff. Sure, make people vote for their favorite, possibly ask them why they are voting for them to validate the vote (kind of like the questions asked to join a clan). And, ok, make a big thing about it. Set rules can go with this title, if they don't follow them they can possibly lose it.

I've been playing for a couple of years and honestly don't recognize half the veteran names.
Are they active? Don't think so.
Are they trusted? Uhhh...?
Respected? By whom?

People grow older, lives get busy and things happen. It's not wrong, it's inevitable. Make room for the newer dedicated people.

I'd rather not say. I'm not trying to point a finger, just want to give my thoughts on the forum subject.

I say if we do demote them we give them a title that shows that they are an old/legendary player.

A rank like that would be pointless, since the old player may not actually come back, and Zerg would still have to update their rank in-game, which uses up time and changes practically nothing, as if they're not online then what difference does their rank make? Sure, they may become active again after a long break, but changing their rank to 'retired', or 'old'/'legendary' would only confuse players more, and may also bring up problems with the veteran that was demoted to that rank, however after elaborating the situation I'm sure that they would understand.

Bringing me back to my point, a new rank would be pointless, as it would confuse people and/or create problems with the demoted players, and also wastes time changing their rank and having to create a whole new code for the rank and their abilities. Furthermore, there's still the 'resident' rank, which, however would still take some time to demote the inactive players, supposing they had to be on to allow Zerg to manually demote them.

In conclusion, I agree with the 'demote inactive veterans' part, but not with an entirely new rank.

I actually don't agree because I quit for about 6 months or a year... Somewhere around there and then I came back recently. I didn't leave to quit just wanted to play so other servers and then come back. So I don't see why we should, they earned it and from what I know it doesn't cause a problem.

A new rank really isn't needed. There is already a rank in place to show a person has been active on the server a long time. It's called Citizen (300 hours and a year of active play, with no long breaks, to achieve).

As far as demotions, one of the requirements for the veteran rank, and I would hope the same for the mod rank, is that they are an active player. If they aren't active anymore, for whatever reason, why would they need the rank?

With veteran it really doesn't matter that much, as a veteran doesn't have many perks over a citizen.
Just drop them to citizen. If they become active again, they could be nominated for veteran if they continue to meet the requirements. If they get pissy about it and leave, they were already inactive so no loss.

For inactive mods, drop them to veteran. Promote a person, that meets the requirements, to fill the void to be able to help people. If they come back to be active again and want to resume the job, promote them to Cmod. If they remain active, they will work back up to full mod. If they don't remain active or get pissy about it and leave (they were inactive already so no loss), you already have someone doing the job.
