Hello there. A topic is up for debate today on whether or not spawn should have the water on the roads.

here's current pictures of the spawn roads with water:

I'm against water because:
-water drips through the stone/smooth making it look ghetto
-water looks ugly in general
-water looks bad when merging in swamps
-water makes it hard to look at the scenery
-water makes it easy to get on top of the rails instead of starting at the real stations, possible messing up people and cluttering the rails with minecarts.


Zerg's reason for the water:
-it looks pretty
not trying to be biased, this is all he gave me =/


Please give us your opinion on what should be done. If you have an idea of your own please do tell!

I know water doesnt look the best anymore but it looks pretty legendary as you walk in between them :P

That... would lag so hard for me when I use a HD texture pack

However a good compromise would be to dig a little path UNDER the path, so like a sewer. I've always like that idea.

I'm against the water.
- it looks bad when it drips through the blocks under onto the walkway below.
- it will cause fps problems for people with so much flowing water
- people won't use the walkway below, instead they'll walk on the railway on top because:
1.) they can't see anything 2.) the water makes it too easy for people to just swim up and walk on the rails (which is not allowed).
-When you go through a transition from a swamp biome into another biome the water looks really bad with patches of swamp water mixed up with clear water and this goes for at least 20 blocks after the swamp biome ends.
- It's the most time consuming task we have left to do on the 1.0 spawn. There will be four roads which will go North, South, East and West, each direction has a road to the border which is 2500 blocks. this means that workers have to place 40,000 water blocks which is not as easy when you're constantly refilling your buckets.

A lot of people have been asking when is the 1.0 coming out, or when will the spawn be finished. Well I want to go back to playing regularly as well and so do the majority of the people working on spawn which is why we're all against this. It's just too time consuming and we don't see how it will benifit the whole concept / design for the railway / roads.

The only problem I have with the whole thing, is the mixture of swamp and regular water. It destroys the whole scenery.

I like the water.

  • Makes it easy to get up to the railway from any point, so new players _won't_ pillar up to it, causing eve extra work
  • Mobs don't like water
  • Looks pretty :>
  • Swamp water makes the rest of teh swamp look swampy :>

Before the 1.0 patch, the water was easy to place.. Now not so much..
The transitions are a little harsh, but I find that acceptable.
Grief by causing the water to flow over the road is fixable by modifying the code to auto-revert water if necessary.
And if people walk on top of the railway, should be fine. I don't anticipate collisions being an issue.
Flowing water doesn't cause any statistically significant lag on my computer. Signs do. I tested this by replacing the water at temp spawn with bedrock and seeing if my FPS changes; it didn't.

replace water with lava.

*I like lava.
*Mobs dont like lava.
*Lava looks warm.
*All roads are cool then, not only swamp.

No Vip, I DON'T agree at all. XD What if new players jump into the lava, and it would happen ALOT...
Also, where would we get so much lava form? Like .. 10000 buckes of lava? No. I'd rather do the water. Actually, I'd rather have nothing there, Just blank space, so you can look at the scenery.
